Magazine Ad
State the assignment (problem/project) in your own words.
For this assignment, we had to look through different magazine ads and pull out pieces of ads we found interesting and use them to create an ad of our own using line, balance, color, and emphasis.
What are your input factors? (What do you need to know or do before you can begin?) Include the research did you do and where?
You need to know the concept of line, balance, color and emphasis.
We did our research by looking through magazines and cutting out images
Then gluing them to a sheet inquiring the four concepts.
Describe the process in detail. Explain the steps you followed in order to complete the project..
In order to complete the process, first we needed to think of a theme for our ad.
Then after we thought of a theme, we needed to look at multiple magazine ads and cut out different pieces that we found appealing.
These pieces were going to be used to complete the ad of our very own. After that, we organized the images on a sheet of paper inquiring line, balance, color and emphasis.
Then, we glued them down the images neatly and organized in an attractive way that would help bring appeal to the ad.
Describe the final output / product in detail: (what are we looking at?)
I created an ad displaying Maybelline New York products.
The ad is very rich and full of color, emphasis, line, and shape.
The images are displayed on the page in a way that attracts people’s attention, and catches the eye.
The background really brings out the different shades and colors of the makeup products.
Describe feedback you received during the project (suggestions, comments, etc). From peers and the instructor. How did you use this feedback to correct issues with your project?
The feedback I received while creating this project was very good.
People said it was very neat and organized and they liked how I used emphasis to display the products, and how they were positioned on the page.
People suggested that I used different colors around the pages to make people eyes move around the ad, and that is exactly what I did.
What did you learn during the assignment such as tools, skills, design concepts, software, hardware, etc. Where else could you use what you learned? How can you apply what you learned in other projects, areas, courses, assignments or outside school?
I learned about the fours concepts of color, line, balance, and emphasis during this project.
I can use these elements while creating other projects in the class, or I could also use this technique outside of school when creating a project, or maybe painting or redecorating a room.
If you were to do the project again, what would you do differently and why? Provide reasons and examples
If I was to do this project again, I would try using different colors and maybe stick to one color scheme instead of using multiple colors.
For example, I would use blue paper with all different shades of blue makeup to create a certain look for the ad.

Flyer of our choice
This is a flyer we designed in color, on whatever we wanted. I chose to make a flyer advertising a Halloween party

If you were to do the project again, what would you do differently and why? Provide reasons and examples
- We had to create a flyer that had to do with Halloween
- It had to be black and white
What are your input factors? (What do you need to know or do before you can begin?) Include the research did you do and where?
- Needed to know about the rule of thirds, and what will attract the viewers eye to the page
- Needed to know how to make things pop and still stand out even though its in black and white
- Needed to know how to set it up in a unique and creative way
Describe the process in detail Explain the steps you followed in order to complete the project..
- Thought of a Halloween themed flyer (Haunted House)
- Opened a blank sheet in publisher
- Used clip art and word art to create and attractive flyer following my theme
- Grouped all of my images together on publisher to create one
Describe the final output / product in detail: (what are we looking at?)
- Flyer displaying a Haunted House in black/white color
- Gives times and place to when it is going to take place
- "Award Winning Location!!" is to get people to read and come, this is displayed with a darker background than the rest of the flyer to grab attention
Describe feedback you received during the project (suggestions, comments, etc). From peers and the instructor. How did you use this feedback to correct issues with your project?
- Peers told me that I could of possibly made the words bigger, and had less image taking up the page
- I could of put the letters in a larger font, and larger on the page, taking up more space
What did you learn during the assignment such as tools, skills, design concepts, software, hardware, etc. Where else could you use what you learned? How can you apply what you learned in other projects, areas, courses, assignments or outside school?
- I learned how to make advertisements still look good and "pop" without using color, and only using black and white
- I can use this if only a black and white printer is available to me and I need to print some sort of advertisement, still making it look interesting
- I could apply this inside and outside of school, whether on school projects, or just a party invitation
If you were to do the project again, what would you do differently and why? Provide reasons and examples
- I would set up the page differently
- Use less images and more words
- Make the words pop out more
- Maybe add more of a background around the details so that the viewer of the flyer can easily read

Thayer Street
The assignment we received was to walk around Thayer Street and have our main focus be on gifts. We had to walk Thayer Street and work on gathering information from different stores and shops that sell gifts. We needed to make sure that we gathered enough information in order to create, and complete a brochure displaying and advertising to a visitor at Thayer Street, where they could look, if they were looking for our certain topic such as ours, which were gifts.
Before we began creating our brochures, we needed to make sure that we gathered enough information from different shops located on Thayer Street including products they sell, hours, pictures, and explaining to the visitors why they would want to visit those specific stores located on the street. We looked very carefully at all of the signs displayed on the shops, and looked for shops that sell gifts. When we found one, we went inside and took pictures, and gathered the certain information essential to completing the brochure.
Before going to Thayer Street, we received our topic of what we were going to be looking for, which were gifts. Then we assigned to each member of our group what their job was going to be, and what they were going to have to keep track of while roaming Thayer Street. The jobs included a photographer, cartographer, data collector, and a data organizer. After we left Thayer Street and each did our part in collecting information, we shared all of our information with each other, putting it all together so we could each create a brochure of our own. We then used Word Publisher to create and design an attractive brochure using all the gathered information, to make visitors want to take a trip to those outlets, while at Thayer Street. We added a map of Thayer Street to our brochures so visitors would know where they are going.
The final project is a trifold displaying different popular gift shops on Thayer Street. The cover of the trifold has a title displaying what they are looking at, a location and a picture of Thayer Street on a busy day, showing visitors how great of a place it is! On the inside flap, there is a map for easy guidance through Thayer Street for visitors. The three inside panels shower three different popular gift shops located on Thayer Street. Each panel includes the name of the store, a picture, the stores hours, location, and a brief description to why visitors would want to go there. On the back Panel there is another brief description of what Thayer Street is and why you would want to go there!
During this project I have received pretty good feedback from peers! They said that the trifold is very neat and organized, and can be easily read by visitors. The different colors and fonts make it less boring to look at, and the way the information is displayed inside the template is creative. The description I placed on the back panel of the trifold is very intriguing to visitors. At first I didn’t have much of a description for each of the stores I decided to feature in the brochure, but then, after feedback, I added more of a description and it only made the brochure better!
During this assignment, I learned a lot about how stores display their information to customers, and get them to want to visit their store. By creating a brochure of my own, it helped me realize what information would be important to me if I was the customer, and I was looking for a certain product, at a place I had never visited before. This information could certainly help if I was to open a store or business at some point, or was trying to sell some sort of product; now that I have realized the information that I would want to see if I was a visitor coming in. It will help me know what information to display if I was creating a brochure for my visitors.
If I was to do this project again, I would want to add customer reviews to each of my stores I displayed on my trifold. I would of went online and seen what people had to say about each of the places I chose to display. When I see good customer reviews for a certain place or product, it makes me want to go to, or buy that product even more. Having another person’s perspective from past experience with something, can really help you decided what to do.
